The Pierre Fabre Foundation, in collaboration with the Aznavour Foundation, has embarked on a project to modernize the National Center for Mental Health Care in Armenia.
The Pierre Fabre Foundation has chosen to contribute to the Aznavour Foundation's initiative to modernize a significant mental health institution in Armenia. This partnership aims to offer crucial assistance to the National Center for Mental Health Care, the largest facility of its kind in the country, by enhancing the treatment and healthcare environment for the Armenian residents, including displaced population.
Nagorno-Karabakh, situated in the South Caucasus, has been under blockade since December 2022. On September 19, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military offensive to gain complete control over the region. Consequently, the entire Armenian population, exceeding 120,000 individuals, has been forcibly displaced, fleeing to Armenia.
These events have inflicted deep emotional and psychological wounds on the affected population. Residents have experienced tragic loss of life, been uprooted from their homes, and witnessed severe disruption to their daily lives. In the midst of this humanitarian crisis, mental health has emerged as a matter of critical importance.
The Pierre Fabre Foundation has opted to support the Aznavour Foundation's efforts to modernize a significant mental health facility in Armenia. This collaboration aims to provide vital assistance to the institution by enhancing the environment for mental health treatment and care.
The joint endeavors of the Pierre Fabre Foundation and the Aznavour Foundation have centered on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry department of the Center. Once operational within 12 months, this department will be the first of its kind in Armenia. With financial backing from the Pierre Fabre Foundation, 60 medical beds specifically tailored to the needs of young patients have been installed.
This partnership seeks to create a lasting impact on mental health services in Armenia and underscores a shared commitment to ensuring access to essential healthcare services for those most in need.
The Aznavour Foundation commenced its support for the National Mental Health Center of Armenia in 2021. Alongside various partners, the Foundation successfully renovated the kitchen block and provided essential furniture and equipment for patient care.
