Provision of mixed rehabilitation in post-war Armenia
Status: Completed
In 2020, a full-scale war broke out in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh). It lasted for 44 days and claimed the lives of thousands of people, leaving a large number of those injured and in need of a long-term physical and psychological rehabilitation.

The use of different types of weapons, including prohibited ammunition, has increased the number of amputees, as well as people suffering from brain, spinal cord and other serious injuries requiring long-term rehabilitation treatment.

The health system in both Artsakh and Armenia is doing its best to meet the needs of the war-affected population; but it is obvious that their capacities are limited.

In Armenia, only two medical institutions provided rehabilitation care. One was located in Yerevan, the country's capital, and the other in Gyumri. Since these two centers are too far apart, many seriously injured people were deprived of access to appropriate rehabilitation care. Thus, it was evident that the decentralization of rehabilitation services was one of the main challenges Armenia was facing.
Creation of te rehabilitationcenter in Vanadzor
In response to these needs, the Aznavour Foundation decided to create a physical and psychological rehabilitation center in the premises of the Vanadzor Medical Center, located in the Lori region.

The center aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by the war in Artsakh, as well as their families, by providing them with much-needed support.
On March 15, 2022, the official inauguration ceremony of the new rehabilitation department took place at the Vanadzor Medical Center.

The rehabilitation department, established under the project "Provision of Mixed Rehabilitation in Post-War Armenia", aims to provide support to our compatriots injured during the war in Artsakh as well as other patients requiring rehabilitation care.
During the first year of operation, the rehabilitation department provided care to several hundred patients from Lori and surrounding areas. As part of the project, the following activities were carried out:
